The 14th annual Buddy's Race Against Cancer, a five kilometer walk or run, will be held Sunday, Nov. 11 in World's Fair Park. The race supports the Thompson Cancer Survival Center's Outreach Program and begins at 3 p.m.

The race has raised more than $2.3 million to support and supplement cancer care in Knoxville and the surrounding areas.

Until a few years ago, I thought of cancer as something that happened to other people. Now I know it all too well... no one is immune.  Sharon Alley, cancer survivor and 2007 Race co-chair"Until a few years ago, I thought of cancer as something that happened to other people. Now I know it all too well... no one is immune," said Sharon Alley, cancer survivor and 2007 Race co-chair, on the official Web site.

According to the Web site, the Thompson Cancer Survival Center's Outreach staff medically serves and provides screenings and education to at-risk individuals throughout East Tennessee and Southern Appalachia each year.

Anyone can register for the race on the individual level, or a team can be created. The deadline for pre-registering at a reduced price has passed, but registration will also be available on the day of the race at $30 for adults and $15 for children 18 and under.

Awards will be given in the five kilometer race for the top three male and female finishers. Awards will also be given to cancer survivors and for those over 40 years old. There are several age divisions and the top three finishers of the one mile kids run/walk will be awarded a prize.
