While the football and men's basketball team ripped off huge victories, other UT teams were in action this weekend as well.
Vols' swimming and diving: The Vols defeated five-time defending national champion Auburn on Friday, 170-127. Jonas Persson won the 100 and 200 freestyles with times of 43.62 and 1:36.40. Persson's times qualified him for the 2008 NCAA Championships. Team captain Michael Wolfe won both the 200-butterfly and 200-backstroke, and his times also qualified him for the championships. Octavio Alesi also chipped in, winning the 50-freestyle and the 100-butterfly. The Vols will return to action when they travel to Virginia to face the No. 12 Cavaliers on Nov. 15.
Vols' tennis: Boris Conkic captured the singles title Sunday at the UNLV Fall Classic in Las Vegas. He defeated UNLV's Luca Barlocchi in three sets, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, to win his first collegiate tournament. The team has completed its fall schedule and will start spring season in January.
Lady Vols' tennis: On Saturday, Samantha Orlin and Rosalía Alda won two singles matches at the SEC Coaches Tournament in Auburn. At the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Indoor National Championships in Columbus, Ohio, Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsófia Zubor dropped an 8-4 decision to Sanaz Marand and Sophie Grabinski of North Carolina. On Sunday, The Lady Vols will open their spring schedule in January.
Lady Vols' soccer: The soccer team lost to Georgia 3-0 in the final match of the regular season. The game marked only the third time this season the Lady Vols have been shut out. They fell to 13-3-2 overall and 8-2-1 in Southeastern Conference play, dropping the team to third place in the SEC. The Orange and White will be in action Wednesday Nov. 7 in the first round of the conference tournament in Orange Beach, Ala.
Lady Vols' rowing: The women's rowing team brought home two gold and two silver medals on Saturday at the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Lady Vols took home first place in both the Championship 8+ and Championship 2x races. They end their fall season next week at the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville.
Lady Vols' volleyball: The VolleyVols finished the weekend with two losses, to Ole Miss on Friday and LSU on Sunday. The losses dropped the squad to 9-15 overall and 4-12 in SEC play. The Lady Vols lone bright spot Sunday came when sophomore Chloe Goldman set the single-season digs record. She totaled 21 against LSU, moving her to a total of 510. The VolleyVols return home to face Florida on Friday to start a three game home stand.
