The Arkansas Razorbacks used a solid pitching performance from Nick Schmidt and made the most of three errors by the Vols defense to take the series opener 6-2.

The Razorbacks scored three runs in the seventh inning to take a 4-2 lead.

The Razorbacks took advantage of short stop Tony Delmonico's fielding error. Arkansas scored two unearned runs on Ben Tschepikow sacrifice fly to deep center field.

The fielding woes continued in the eighth inning allowing to more unearned runs to cross the plate.

The Vols squandered a solid pitching performance from staff ace James Adkins.

Adkins held Arkansas hitless through three innings before giving up a run on one hit in the fourth inning.

Adkins finished with 7 1/3 innings pitched giving up five hits and two earned runs. He also had seven strikeouts.

The Vols tied up the game on Jeff Lockwood's solo home run to left field in the fifth inning.

They took the lead in the next inning on Yan Gomes' RBI single that plated Julio Borbon.

But the Vols defensive struggles allowed Arkansas to reclaim the lead and to take the series opener behind Schmidt's solid performance.

Schmidt threw a complete game four hitter and struck out nine in front of 3,987, the eighth largest crowd at Lyndsey Nelson Stadium.
