It was a night of laughter and excitement on Saturday when Alpha Delta Pi and Kappa Delta were awarded first place in this year's All-Sing competition hosted by All Campus Events on Saturday Feb. 10 at Alumni Memorial Building.
This was the second year in a row in which the sisters of Alpha Delta Pi took first place in the event. Their performance at last year's All-Sing delighted the audience and included songs from "The Phantom of the Opera." This year they teamed up with the sisters of Kappa Delta to perform music inspired by the musical "Oklahoma" and once again amazed the audience with their harmonious vocals.
"Winning first place in All-Sing for the second year in a row was a surreal experience. After working so hard for so many months, it was nice for that work to be recognized and rewarded," Ashley Cole, Alpha Delta Pi All-Sing director said, "Our girls were so diligent and faithful to be at practices and be flexible when things didn't always go as planned."
Alpha Omicron Pi and Chi Omega came in second place with their performance of Broadway favorite "Mamma Mia!" which included songs inspired by the famed 70s group, Abba. The groups came dressed in full 70s attire which included go-go boots and metallics. Third place went to Baptist Collegiate Ministry who performed "Sundays in the South" which included traditional gospel songs.
"In the end, all it took was confidence in ourselves and our preparation to put on the best show we possibly could. I could not be any prouder of those girls!" Cole
The competition included nine different performances. Each performance was inspired by music either from a Broadway musical or a movie. "Hairspray," "West Side Story," and "Big River" were among the performances from plays. "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and "Disney: Happily Ever After" included popular songs from the movie. Each group made sure to make their performance memorable by dressing according to the theme which included costumes that resembled Mickey Mouse or run-away convicts.
"I enjoyed watching All-Sing because I got to see some of the amazing talents that my fellow students have," student Stephanie Bada said.
Entertainment between performances was done by country singer Ward Guenther. Guenther has become somewhat of an All-Sing tradition, often coming back every year to perform. Ward is a UT alum and was also a former All Campus Events member.
All Campus Events is part of Central Program Council. CPC is the main provider for student entertainment and events at the University of Tennessee. All Campus Events next project will be Carnicus on April 20.
