The University of Tennessee Department of Chemistry is holding its 15th annual summer chemistry camp for middle school students. This year's theme is "Adventures in Forensic Chemistry."

Open for students in grades five through nine, the five-day camp meets every afternoon June 4-8.

According to faculty advisor Al Hazari, there is a different subject for each of the five afternoons, each of which relates forensic chemistry.

The students will meet for a discussion at the beginning of each afternoon where the instructors will discuss the day's subject and do simple demonstrations. The students then will move to the laboratory where they will participate in various experiments that relate to the day's theme. After a break for snacks, the students will meet for a talk about what they discover.

For the second year in a row Bill Bass, professor emeritus of forensic anthropology and founder of the UT "Body Farm," will speak to the students on Tuesday, June 5.

The course, which is organized and supervised by Hazari, will be taught by chemistry graduate students from UT. The enrollment for the camp is 35-40 students and there may be a long waiting list. The camp costs $99.
