Ivan Oransky, deputy editor of The Scientist, will speak at the University of Tennessee about his experiences in science journalism on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 2:30 p.m.

In the lecture, which will be held in 203 Brehm Animal Sciences Building on UT's agriculture campus, Oransky will talk about his work at The Scientist and his other experiences in the field of science journalism.

The Scientist calls itself "the magazine for life science professionals." It provides monthly coverage on the latest research, technology and business in the life science field.

Oransky began working for the publication in 2002. As deputy editor he oversees the magazine and its Web site. He is responsible for the top-edit on all stories.

Oransky graduated from Harvard and received his M.D. from New York University, where he now teaches medical writing. He is editor-in-chief of Health and the Media, a peer-reviewed journal.

His past editorial positions include Pulse, the Journal of American Medical Association and Praxis Post. Among the many publications he has written for are the Baltimore Sun, U.S. News and World Report, the Boston Globe, Fitness, The Forward, Slate, The New Republic and USA Today.

When running two publications and teaching fail to keep Oransky busy, he lectures at various seminars, like he'll be doing Wednesday at UT.

I like the photo of the cover art. I think it definitly grabs a reader's attention. I know I wanted to read one or two of the magazines.
